The bass was packaged well with styrofoam all around it. I read several reviews and lubed the tuners before trying to tune it. The neck was very straight but for me the action was too high. I've wanted a Jazz style bass for quite a while. Since I'm not a great player (mediocre would be an apt description of my abilities) and bass is not a primary instrument, I did not want to buy anything expensive for my first bass. I had seen many inexpensive bass guitars with a P/J pickup configuration (split coil neck, single coil bridge, ala Precision bass and Jazz bass respectively) , but I wanted a straight Jazz pickup se ...

I've wanted a Jazz style bass for quite a while. Since I'm not a great player (mediocre would be an apt description of my abilities) and bass is not a primary instrument, I did not want to buy anything expensive for my first bass. So, when I saw this at such a price, I could not pass it up this time. I had seen many inexpensive bass guitars with a P/J pickup configuration (split coil neck, single coil bridge, ala Precision bass and Jazz bass respectively) , but I wanted a straight Jazz pickup set. I got it with this instrument. I some ways I was disappointed, in others I was pleased. The disappointment came in the neck shape and size, and, to a lesser degree, the electronics. First, this has a very big neck, very fat, very wide. I was looking for the narrow neck of a Jazz type bass, this is not it. That being said, it is well made, and quite solid. Even with the bigger neck, I have little problem banging out notes on this up and down. Second, this is expected at the price, the pickups are quite micro phonic and a little noisy with some overdrive. The main reason for this is they are not wax potted which is quite reasonable for a bass in this price range. A simple pickup upgrade would fix this. The good. It has the Jazz bass growl and mid range punch I was looking for out of a bass, and with a single coil, Jazz style, middle (or neck, depends on how you say it and what you call it) it does not have the smooth boomy sound of a P-style bass pickup, much tighter and more mid range sound. The setup is good enough to play, but it could be better, again, this is to be expected on such a low priced instrument, room for improvement. The fit and finish are very good, no issues that I have found as of yet. I love the natural, unpainted, look of the body, reminiscent of the F-type Jazz basses from the '70s. I am an experienced tech with as soldering iron and have replaced many, many pickups in my guitars over the years, haven't opened it up yet. Overall, this is good stuff.

The neck pocket could be a little tighter, the pick guard has one little spot thats not perfect and the rout for the bridge puckup isnt perfect but none of that really matters. I was very eager to get my hands on one of these guitars, as I had seen a few YouTube unboxing videos. I was not disappointed. It arrive quickly and in perfect condition. I quickly tuned it up (not set it up as the was done already). I am not gonna tell you that this is a good guitar for the price, I'm gonna tell you that this is a good guitar!!! Build quality: Whats Bad? - the Strap Buttons dont have aggressive enough screws. they will get loose. the screws may need to be replaced. - all mounting holes (pick guard, bridge, tuners etc) were not drilled pre-installation, leaving sawdust and wood chips under the hardware. - the white pick guard is just ugly with the sunset, and covers what is a really nice finish. a clear pick guard option would be nice. -The instrument cable is actual cheap, and will probably fail after a couple weeks. spend $15 on amazon or at GC and get a decent cable Whats good? - frets all have smooth edges - tuners have a nice feel - really playable and versatile at the price point. The Neck: The neck on this bass Deserves its own section. It is 2JZ levels of overbuilt. The stock String gauges measure E: .100 A: .80 D: .65 and G: .45 in the spirit of absurdity, I attempted to move up to .130 .110 .85 .70 and tuned to standard, the neck was barely bowed, and the .70 broke, the core stripping out of the tuning peg completely. So if you don't do anything stupid and/or weird, the neck shouldn't give you trouble. Look at it this way, This bass cost what a carton of cigarettes does. even if you dont know what a bass is, or how to play one, buy it. its cheap, its fun to slap and it makes bass sounds.

The online reviews of the Glarry bass are quite accurate.For the price of this bass it is a superior product. It does require some setup as do most instruments regardless of price. But in my opinion what is really superior is the customer service.I ordered directly from Glarry because of the reputation for good customer service.It turned out that I had a truss rod problem and it was taken care by a few emails in days not weeks.

The pickup cavities were not centered with respect to the strings - the neck pickup should have been located 1 mm further towards the G string side, and the bridge pickup should have been located 2 mm towards the E string side. The action was too high even when the bridge saddles were in the lowest position, so a shim was needed in the neck pocket to lower it. There were a few frets that needed to be dressed a little ...

The bass is good for the price, though the one I received had some issues. The action was too high even when the bridge saddles were in the lowest position, so a shim was needed in the neck pocket to lower it. There were a few frets that needed to be dressed a little to prevent buzzing, but the neck is overall straight, and feels solid (like it won't need lots of truss rod adjustment to maintain the action at the desired height). One of the height adjustment screws used for the bridge saddles needed to be replaced as the hex wrench wouldn't insert fully (because of a little metal burr that was preventing that). There were a few noticeable dents in the side of the neck and fingerboard near the nut, and the body wood at the neck pocket had some pretty rough edges were it thins out. I mentioned these concerns to Glarry, and received partial compensation for my purchase which was fair, in light of the defects and the work I needed to do to get the bass in shape to play. Overall, I am satisfied with the purchase - especially with the customer support I received.

If you are on the fence about ordering one of these then I urge you to do it. I watched a ton of reviews on YouTube before ordering mine and I'm extremely pleased with the J bass. I will be ordering a white p bass soon. I expect the quality to be on par with the J. Just get the bass. You'll be happy with it.

You can NOT beat Glarry on their price point. Straight out of the box, the action is nice, super straight neck, NO sharp frets. The only negative is a lil humming which is probably grounding from bridge. But I LOVE it. Project bass. Would luv to get one to mod and create something new.

It was wrapped and packaged perfectly. No marks anywhere. The only problem was the input jack was loose. But most guitars will have the same problem. Put a star washer in and problem fixed. The sound is very good considering the price. I plan on changing the pickups which should sound like my Fender Jazz Bass.

For the price, a great bass, quality and build even with a Squire, nice finish and fit, came set up with low action, straight neck, neck width is that of a p bass, I put on an Allparts bone nut for P bass, and it dropped right in, minimal sanding/filing on slots. Decent tuners, pickups OK, on thlower output end but decent sounding. Neck is chunky but pretty comfortable, better than my Pbass. Very lightweight. Overall, for the price you can't go wrong if you get one with the QC like mine had.

Pluses Playable straight from box No high or sharp frets Minuses Tuners a bit stiff Pick up positions not cut correctly slightly off in both pickups meaning strings not quite in line with pickup poles but doesn't seem to affect output Buzz when connected to amp Overall very good value for money after greasing the tuners and rewiring the electronics with screened wire it is now a solid very playable bass.
